Discreet production

Comprehensive solutions for agile management and growth of manufacturing companies.

In recent years, there has been a strong push for innovation within the industry. Manufacturing companies are trying to gradually computerise, digitise and of course automate any processes that can be automated. More progressively, they are already introducing elements of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Microsoft’s business applications are a set of adaptable ERP functions, business intelligence, infrastructure, computing and database services that can be combined into a single offering that covers everything that such companies need now and will need tomorrow.

Production and supply management

The Dynamics 365 solution is easy to implement and customise in order to drive innovation, increase product and service quality and improve customer satisfaction as quickly as possible. The system supports integration with other systems, reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO). The following areas are important from the point of view of manufacturing efficiency processes themselves:

  • Cost management
  • Inventory management
  • Planning
  • Goods and services (resources) purchasing process
  • Demand forecasting
  • Product information management
  • Management of production itself

Cost management

Creating waybills involves two conditions. The first is defining a format for displaying cost information for a manufactured item or production order. The second is defining a basis for calculating indirect costs. Each costing formula is entered as a cost record, which consists of cost type, surcharge or price rate, cost group, status and date. Active cost records for indirect costing formulas are used to estimate production costs. They are also used to calculate actual costs connected with the real consumption of time and materials.

  • Dynamics 365 optimises forecasting and planning of production and materials,
  • and allows for simultaneous planning of resources and capacities.
  • It includes tools for discrete, process and lean manufacturing management.

Inventory management

Inventory items can be tracked by dimension, location, warehouse, pallet, location, batch and serial number. The system works with several inventory valuation methods including FIFO, LIFO, standard cost, moving and weighted averages. The sophisticated warehouse management system is integrated with other business processes such as transportation, production, quality control, purchasing, transfer, sales and complaints or other reasons for product returns.

Main plans

To support day-to-day work operations, Dynamics 365 uses various master plans that can simulate various production strategies. They help to monitor these strategies and implement company policies, as well as internal performance or customer satisfaction policies.

Static plans – calculations use current data to generate a clean requirements plan. This plan remains unchanged until further planning is made or until you manually intervene. Static plan – available to various staff (e.g. purchasing officers or production managers), who use it to make decisions about daily tasks.

Dynamic plans – based on a clean requirements plan that is the result of master planning. However, dynamic plans can change when other data changes, for example, when a new sales order is created. This allows you to monitor changes and availability of items without disrupting static plans used by other workers.

Demand forecasting

To generate a baseline forecast, a summary of historical transactions is passed on to Microsoft Azure Machine Learning. This is a service that is useful for multiple users of the system. But it is also easily adaptable to the specifics of individual industries. You can use Dynamics 365 to visualise predictions, customise them and track key performance indicators (KPIs).

Key functions:

  • Generating a statistical basis for forecasting based on historical data
  • Dynamic settings of forecast dimensions
  • Visualisation of trends, confidence intervals and adjustment of forecasts
  • Authorisation of a customised forecast for use in planning
  • Removal of exceptional values
  • Measuring forecast accuracy

Product information management

A product is primarily defined by its product number, name and description. In addition, however, the product type (product or service), product subtype, model variant (dimensions, dimension groups, nomenclature, configuration models), connection to one or more categories, defining product and category properties, product images, attachments, units of measure and related conversions, and translations of names and descriptions can be specified.

Products can be directly defined or imported from the Product Life Cycle Management module, the Product Data Management module or the Product Information Management module.

Production management

The product life cycle begins with the creation of a production order, production batch, kanban or project. It ends with a finished product that is ready for the customer or for the next stage of production. The system offers a choice of four production principles: build to stock, build to order, configure to order, configurable process and a BOM.
